Dear Confreres,

Peace!  I hope that the Fudzinskis and Figases and Roskwitalskis and Kaczmareks are not turning over in their graves as they hear that the strange-sounding name of “McCurry” will be added to the list of Ministers Provincial of St. Anthony Province.  Oh the wonder of it!  Actually I am still a bit gobsmacked at the unfolding of events over the past couple of months.  The mysterious ways of the Holy Spirit led you to elect me.  Even though I am so well aware of all my weaknesses and limitations, I am prepared to grasp the nettle, and serve you as best I can.  My first priority will be to listen to each of you – to hear what you are looking for in a leader at this stage in the life of our province fraternity.  It seems like donkey’s years since I have had a good chinwag with many of you.  So I’ll welcome that very much.  You can help me sort out your expectations and God’s.  Please keep the teapot handy.  I am mindful that our Chapter year falls in between the 800th anniversary of St. Francis’s charism and the 800th of St. Clare’s call.  Let us ask them both to intercede for us.  I place myself and all of you under the mantle of our Lady, whom St. Francis invoked as “Advocate of the Order.”  More later…  For now, let me just say “thank you” for your trust – God grant me to prove worthy of it.

Fraternally,

Jim Mc

Dear Confreres,

Peace and Good!  These recent days have afforded me much opportunity for a good think about the future of our Province.  We all desire to be long-sighted.  The vote whether to merge with Immaculate Conception Province looms large on the horizon.  I am firmly committed to the merger. Among the goals of the Order's General Definitory during their present sessennium is "Interculturality" -- the merging of cultures in our friaries and provinces.  The Order is now looking to SA Province and IC Province as a model or template for the merging of cultures.  I wish you could have seen the positive reaction of the General Assembly in Argentina to the presentation by Michael Kolodziej and Justin Biase about the merger process.  They regard our path towards merger as an example for other regions of the Order to follow. The Kingdom of Heaven is comprised of the widest diversity united in supernatural charity.  As the Italians would say: Per Carita -- For Charity!  Let us mirror this unity in diversity to the world.  Just a short reflection...

Fraternally,

James Mc
